Today I will be discussing the Extech CT70 AC Circuit Load and Outlet Tester. This circuit load tester may be small, but it packs a big punch. The first thing you notice about this load and outlet tester is the digital display. This innovation is oddly late to the party but makes life so much easier. When using the CT70 as an outlet tester the display will shine Blue for Pass and Red if there is a problem. The outlet functions that it handles are as follows,

  • Neutral to Ground Voltage
  • GFCI Trip Time
  • GFCI Trip Current
  • Hot/Neutral/Ground Impedance
  • Available Short Circuit Current (ASCC)
  • Open or Reversed Wiring

Those functions are what you have come to expect from an outlet tester but the AC Circuit Load functions are where it really shines. The display is put to good use by displaying the Peak Line Voltage and Frequency as well as calculating the Voltage Drop and Line Impedance. The CT70 can also put a load on the circuit with selectable loads of 12, 15 and 20 Amps. This really is an all in one tool that will save you time and money. In critical environment like a hospital, being able to know what values each power outlet is putting out as well as confirming it can handle specific loads, the CT70 is invaluable to the technician.

Cheers and Happy Testing,
