Borescopes, borescopes, borescopes!! So many choices. Where to begin? This handy little post will hopefully help you navigate the murky waters of video inspection with a look at the line-up of borescopes offered by General Tools.

First off, in the more affordable price ranges you will find compact systems like the General Tools DCS950 Palmscope and the General Tools DCS800 Compact. The first system, as the name suggests, fits in the palm of your hand and has a surprisingly large screen (takes up most of the smartphone-sized unit at 2.7”) and QVGA (320x240) resolution. This unit clocks in at less than $160 and is super convenient. The DCS800 is a slightly larger, but still compact unit, with a 3.5” screen and can record video to an internal SD card. Very hand if you need to keep precise records. Also in the lower price range you can find the General Tools DCS660 SeaScope, which, again as the name implies, is a waterproof unit. The DCS660 will allow the user to take underwater video and pictures. This is really useful for plumbing applications and even rather unique applications like inspecting boats.

Now to the higher end units. General Tools has some great products like General Tools DCS2000 and the General Tools DCS1800 . The latter is still a handheld system but packs a host of features that warrant its price tag. Along with a larger screen and frame rate, the DCS1800 can transmit wireless data on a 2.4 GHz frequency, meaning you can stream video from the scope to a number of wireless devices and screens. The DCS2000 is General Tools’ top of the line offering with a 7 inch screen, 640x480 VGA resolution, digital zoom, and video recording with voice annotations. All this comes at a very competitive sub-$1600 price point.

Hopefully, this gives some guidance on borescope selection. Check out this link for more info.

See you next time.
