A Beginner's Guide to Wire and Valve Location in Irrigation with the Armada Pro700
A life before technology does not seem to be a life I would like to live in. When I think about how people used to manage a client’s irrigation system, a system that they did not install, I can only imagine how labor intensive that could be. If a valve or wiring was buried how would you find it without using your best judgment and digging random holes? Thankfully, wire and valve locators have been invented to make that an easier task.
The Armada Pro700 is one such device that does this task beautifully. With a very simple, easy to grasp tool, you can trace a buried wire to a missing valve. The unit comes with a Transmitter, carrying case, 27” Receiver wand, black/red connection leads, head phones and a ground stake.
In its simplest terms, the black and red connections would be connected to their respective wires. One would go to the wire you want to trace underground and the other would go to the ground stake. Ensuring a proper grounding is very important to the function of the wire location. Then turning on the transmitter and receiver you should begin to hear a beeping noise. You would then fan the receiver over the ground and begin tracing the wire. As the receiver gets closer to the wire it will increase in volume until you are directly over the wire where the beeping will cease. Once the wire is located you will then walk and sweep the receiver in a small arc to trace the wire to your final destination.
