FLIR i5: My Newest Review
This is a post about the benefits of owning a thermal camera if you are a homeowner or contractor doing some light energy efficiency work. The following is what I observed when using a Flir i5 here at the office.

For more than 80 years, the name Wohler has stood for quality and progressive innovations in the field of measuring instruments, visual-inspection systems, and cleaning equipment for heating, ventilation, and facility-management applications. As a family-owned enterprise with an international focus, Wohler places particular value on customer and supplier relationships. Wohler’s headquarters are in Bad Wünnenberg in Germany, but their market presence is worldwide.
AEMC PEL 100 series power meters (PEL 102 and PEL 103) do everything you would expect out of a high quality meter in this price range with a few super cool features that place them above the competition in certain areas.
This is a follow up to the smash hit, must read blog of the summer, Fieldpiece CO Detector Accessory Head. All kidding aside, the ATIR3 IR Thermometer Accessory Head by Fieldpiece is a much simpler product that every HVAC technician worth his weight in refrigerant will use.
It’s after 10pm, do you know where your kilowatt hours are?? Now you can find out with the Dent Instruments ELITEpro XC. This little meter packs a big punch into a small unit and does virtually everything you need for determining energy consumption in larger scale operations.
In my last installment I wrote about the Fieldpiece HS36 Stick Meter. This meter accepts the accessory heads that Fieldpiece makes to expand its meters to fit its customer’s specific needs. The ACM3 CO Detector Head (pictured at right) is a snap-on Accessory that adds the capability of measuring CO to your Fieldpiece Stick Meter.
When we last left off, I gave a small introduction to Fieldpiece and their philosophy regarding Multimeters in the HVAC world. Today we are going to discuss their HS36 TRMS Stick Meter. The Fieldpiece HS36 TRMS Stick Multimeter represents the top of the line Stick meter that Fieldpiece currently offers. For those unfamiliar with Stick style meters, this post should be a great introduction.
In a world filled with chaos and seemingly infinite thermal imaging choices, one man seeks to reveal the truth about the features and uses of Flir’ series of cameras. This is part VI and the completion of this heroic quest - FLIR T Series bx (T420bx, T440bx, T620bx, T640bx) for Building Diagnostics Applications!! (Too overdramatic?). Anyway, this is the last one for this blog series.
My epic blog series continues with Part V of Flir’s “How to Choose” video series; this installment focuses on the T series cameras and their benefits as applied to electrical and mechanical applications. If you have read my other post (and I will be greatly saddened if you have not…), you have a good idea of the features available thus far in Flir’s camera line.
Fieldpiece Instruments is a California based manufacturer that produces professional-grade testing equipment with a specialty in the HVAC/R market. While most Multimeters are designed for laboratory work or for use by electricians, Fieldpiece wanted to create a meter that was specifically designed with HVAC technicians in mind. What they came up with was the Stick Digital Multimeter.
