Today we will be discussing the Fieldpiece SVG3 Digital Micron Vacuum Gauge. This meter reads vacuum in micron of Mercury (Hg) and has a range from 9,999 to 0 microns and a screen resolution of 1 micron. The settings can also be changed to read in mmHg, mbar, mTorr, Torr and Pascals. As one would expect, the Fieldpiece SVG3 operates by attaching the gauge between the vacuum pump and the system being worked on. Three different variations of setup can be seen in the image below.

While Fieldpiece didn’t reinvent the wheel as far as operation is concerned, they did add two nice features that add value and can possibly sway you into purchasing this model over the various other options available today. The first is a hook that is attached to a strap that snaps into the back of the unit when not in use. They opted for a hook and strap to allow the gauge to hang more naturally and it will tilt up so you can read the screen. They also used a hook to be able to support the weight of hoses instead of a standard magnet. The second feature they added on the Fieldpiece SVG3 Micron Gauge is a rate calculator that shows the speed at which the pressure is rising or falling. This is a useful tool for pulling a vacuum as you can get an easy estimate for how long it will take to reach the vacuum you are trying to achieve. If you have already pulled the necessary vacuum and are testing the system for leaks, a higher value could be an indication that there is a leak in the system.

Other features that are nice are the built-in Schrader depressor to reduce leakage, large easy to read backlit display, and the alarm and stopwatch setting. The display is a real beauty as it large enough without looking silly and displays two sets of information. Most often it will give you the current vacuum on the top line and the rate of flow on the second line. The big blue button in the center with a light bulb turns on the blue light if you are in a dark setting. The alarm also lets you program a high value and a low value. This is great as you can be alerted when you reach the desired vacuum and when you are performing the leak test you will know if too much vacuum is lost without having to read the display constantly. This allows you to focus on other tasks and work more effectively.

Overall Fieldpiece again impresses with the SVG3 Digital Micron Vacuum Gauge by showcasing their understanding of what technicians are looking for in their equipment and not fluffing products with useless or gimmicky tech. This unit is great for any HVAC technician that is new to the field and the experienced veteran. For more information and great pricing on the Fieldpiece SVG3, please follow this link.
