Today I am reviewing the AML Pro All Materials Locator for PVC and PE Pipes from Subsurface Instruments. The AML Pro is designed to locate PVC pipes, PE pipes, and almost any other material that has an edge based on the density difference between the soil and the object. The AML Pro uses ultra-high radio frequencies (2.45 Ghz) in order to find the density differences between objects and the soil.

The Subsurface Instruments AML Pro locator is made out of a durable ABS plastic and features a large backlit screen, which displays advanced GPS mapping, digital target indication, and sensitivity levels. The unit only weighs 2.5 lbs and has an ergonomic handle, so finding what you are looking for is not very strenuous. The Subsurface AML Pro features 32 individual sensitivity settings to help the user zero out unwanted feedback in order help zero in on the object he or she is trying to locate. When a target has been detected, a laser guide will shine on the target the user is aiming at. Once a target has been detected, the user can further understand the orientation of the object using the left and right target indicators. The goal is to line the unit up parallel to the object underground in order to find what position it is laying in. For instance, let us say that the user is searching for a PVC pipe. The laser guide lights up, and the right side target indicator is displaying on the screen. The user needs to turn slightly in order for the AML Pro and the PVC pipe to become parallel with one another. Once the left and right indicators are both displaying, it means you have found exactly how the pipe is laying, and can now follow it.

The Subsurface AML Pro Locator also includes a heavy-duty carrying case to help protect the unit during transportation and storage. The carrying case also includes a set of premium noise isolating headphones that can be used with the AML Pro to further assist in locating objects. Finally, the case includes a rechargeable lithium battery kit for a long-lasting power source.

Subsurface Instruments also has a more affordable version, the AML Plus All Materials Locator for PVC and PE Pipes. This version is just as capable as the Pro version, but only has 9 sensitivity levels and no screen.
