Secure and reliable voice transmission is an important part of fiber network installation. When you are setting up a network you will find that you need to speak to technicians in other areas. The normal method would be to communicate via walkie-talkies to transmit information which could include network passwords or addresses. Walkie-Talkies are very popular and the ability to have others listening in on your frequency is definitely not where you want to be. The OWL HOOTS Optical Talk Sets are a great alternative to walkie-talkies. These talk sets offer many advantages over the traditional walkie-talkie. The first and most obvious is you have the security you need to protect your business. You do not have to worry about finding a clear or open channel to communicate. Another advantage is the ability to communicate even if you are working in an environment that is noisy or has a lot of interference. The fiber communication offered by the OWL HO-850 / HO-1300 does not care about walls or other forms of electromagnetic or radio frequency interference. The Fiber Talk Sets also double as fully calibrated light sources with an output power of -20.0 dBm. The OWL HO-850 HOOT Talk Set uses 850nm wavelengths while the HO-1300 HOOT Talk Set uses 1300nm wavelengths to transmit their light signal. The typical range for these talk sets is about 20km, which should be sufficient for just about any job site. When it comes to safe communication, I would always err on the side of caution. The OWL HO-850 and HO-1300 are great units and happen to be priced to move.

Cheers and Happy Testing,

-Sam
