Hello refrigeration enthusiasts! Today’s post is going to take a look at a mid-level leak detector from Inficon that provides a great balance of features that bridges the gap between the budget and deluxe models – the Inficon Compass Refrigerant Leak Detector 717-202-G1. This unit is an upgrade from the TEK-Mate unit I reviewed previously and uses some similar technology but also offers upgraded features.

First off, the Inficon Compass uses the same heated diode technology as the TEK-Mate, which involves a heated sensor that is sensitive to the chemical reactions of its element and halogen refrigerants. The resulting displacement of molecules in the sensor is registered by the unit as and audible tick and LED indicators.

Some of the upgraded features of the Compass refrigerant leak detector include selectable sensitivity, headphone jack, a rechargeable NiMH battery that can also be powered by AC adaptor, a battery power indicator, automatic zeroing to compensate for possible interference from build-up, and a water resistant sensor filter.

The Inficon Compass is also designed to be very ergonomic, light and easy-to-use, and features an excellent sensitivity of 0.15 oz/year. If you are in the market for a high-quality low price refrigerant detector, check out the Inficon Compass Refrigerant Leak Detector 717-202-G1.
