FLIR “How to Choose” Series Episode IV: A New Hope (for home diagnostics). There’s a Star Wars joke for you nerds out there. And now down to business… The FLIR E Series bx cameras are specially designed to handle building inspection applications and ensure that you can get your results to homeowners, contractors and insurance companies to show what needs to be fixed and where – all in an instant.

The E Series bx (E30bx, E40bx, E50bx, E60bx) has all the same features as the regular E Series, so you get all the same wi-fi and Bluetooth capability, built in digital camera, laser pointer targeting, respective picture-in-picture and fusion technologies, and touch screen interface. All the upgrades that occur as you go up the line in the regular E Series (see part III post) are present here.

Where the bx series differs, is their temperature range and sensitivity. The temperature ranges on the bx cameras are smaller but the sensitivity is greater. This means that the range is specifically tuned to the ranges you will find in homes and buildings but the greater sensitivity will show you smaller differences in temperature, allowing you to more accurately gauge problems in a residential environment. When it comes to detecting moisture problems, even the smallest fraction of a degree can make a difference and the E Series bx cameras where created with this in mind. The bx cameras also feature an insulation alarm to show you voids in the existing insulation (shown in blue to the right) and a dew point alarm to locate hidden moisture issues (shown in green to the right).

Finally, the E60bx deserves special mention for its resolution which is an invaluable tool in using your images to display your services and expertise on your website for marketing.

Part V coming soon...
