Today I'm going to take a quick look at an excellent new meter from UEi – the UEi DL429 Wireless TRMS HVAC Clamp Meter. This meter is extremely robust and affordable, taking advantage of cutting edge wireless technology for added convenience. Let's dive in.

First off, the DL429 features wireless communication to both iOS and Android devices. Coupled with the built-in magnetic mount, this allows for truly hands free operation. The DL429 includes all the standard clamp meter features you would expect from a high-quality instrument, like TRMS Voltage and amperage readings (this is very important for working in environment where distortion is present such as dimmer-switch lighting and LEDs), resistance, capacitance (making it great for HVAC work), frequency, duty cycle, and dual temperature probe inputs for taking regular readings and measuring delta. The DL429 also features a built-in worklight and brightly lit backlight LCD display. It also has some good safety features like input jack lockout, low battery lockout, a visible high-voltage alert and can withstand a 6 foot drop.

Another very exciting feature of the DL429 HVAC Clamp Meter is the removable clamp head. The clamp portion of the meter can be removed from the base and used with other attachment heads, even from other brands!

For instance if you have a Fieldpiece ARH5 psychrometer head, you can attach it to the base portion of the DL429 clamp meter and get readings onscreen or transmitted to the app. This essentially makes the DL429 a control unit for a variety of different component heads for various brands and for the line that UEi will soon release. Overall, in addition to being an excellent clamp meter the DL429 is a highly versatile all-around electrical and HVAC tool.

Anyone have any thoughts on the implications of wireless meter technology?
