Today I will be discussing the TSI 9565-A VelociCalc Ventilation Meter. This unit has many applications including, but not limited to, HVAC Testing and Balancing, Clean Room Testing, IAQ Investigations and Process Air Flow Testing.

The 9565-A model of this meter comes with the TSI 9565-P Ventilation meter and a TSI 966 articulated air velocity probe.

The TSI 966 probe has a velocity range of 0-9,999 ft/min, Temperature range of 14-140 F, and Humidity reading of 5 to 95%. The 9565 series of VelociCalc ventilation meters can handle a velocity range up to 15,500 ft/min and has 14 interchangeable “smart probes” available to upgrade now or later.

The unit itself comes with a differential pressure sensor as well as tubing and a static pressure probe. It also includes the TrakPro and LogDat2 software as well as a Hard Carrying Case.

The ability to upgrade with different probes is a great feature as you can increase your functions as your business increases. Some useful probes that you might need in the future are CO2, VOC, CO as well as rotating vanes for velocity and temperature.

The TSI 9565-A VelociCalc Ventilation Meter also has two K type thermocouple ports as well. As far as using the instrument it is fairly simple. The unit is a handheld meter and has a telescoping probe to reach into the ducts. The display is large and clear and has a relatively simple menu design to select different tests. Volumetric Flow Rate can also be calculating as a function of the velocity, pressure, duct size and K factor which you can access via the menu.

This is a great alternative two an expensive Balometer Flow Hood that may be out of the current budget.

All in all, this is a great unit if you are just starting out or are looking to replace an older unit. What sort of features are you looking at the most when selecting a ventilation meter?

Cheers and Happy Testing,

-Sam
