Today I am reviewing the GSD600 Gas Leak Detector from Amprobe. The GSD600 is designed to detect gases such as methane and propane gas with 35-ppm (propane) sensitivity. The GSD600 measures propane from 35 ppm to 580 ppm, and methane from 40 ppm to 640 ppm. The Amprobe GSD600 is fantastic for industrial, home, air-conditioning, and heating maintenance applications. It is ideal for checking gas pipelines, valves, regulators, and meters on gas equipment.

The Amprobe GSD600 has many unique features that make it a fantastic gas leak detector. First, the Amprobe GSD600 automatically calibrates in fresh air in less than 1 minute. This is ensures that its future measurements will be as accurate as possible. Secondly, the Amprobe GSD600 has five different audible and visual LED alarm settings for when the ppm is above 40, 80, 160, 320, and 640. Third, the GSD600 has an integrated earphone jack for when the user is in a noisy environment and needs to focus on the audible ticks. The GSD600’s probe is almost 18” long and is very flexible, making it excellent for tight spaces and hard-to-reach areas. The Amprobe GSD600 automatically shuts off after 10 minutes of the last button press in order to save battery life for the four AA batteries. If the user does not want to hear any of the audible alerts, this feature is also fully mutable.

Using the Amprobe GSD600 is as simple as powering the unit on in fresh air, moving the unit’s probe close to any susceptible gas leak areas, and listening and watching to the audible and visual indicators. It is very easy to determine just how much gas is leaking with the GSD600.

When was the last time your hot water heater was checked for any leaks?
